Patient Profile
A 40-year-old adult who has been feeling constantly low, easily tearful, lacking interest in all hobbies, waking early, and struggling to concentrate at work.
They believe their condition is caused by “stress” and hope that a holiday would fix everything.
They have no suicidal thoughts but feel overwhelmed and guilty, especially about their reduced energy at home.
Doctor’s Task
Your responsibilities in this case include:
- establishing rapport with a reluctant patient
- exploring symptoms, severity, and functional impact
- screening for suicidal ideation
- explaining that the symptoms are consistent with Depression
- outlining management options (counselling + medication)
- addressing concerns about antidepressants
- giving realistic self-care advice
- arranging a referral and follow-up appointment
